It's been a while, but it looks like I'm finally getting round to doing something with this website. I haven't updated the Lost Empires pages for a very long time, so I feel that it needs a bit of a facelift. Hopefully, this will be it, or at the very least, the start of it.
OK, for starters, what exactly is "Lost Empires"? Well, for those of you that don't know it or me, it started off a very long time ago as a conventional role-playing game. If you're interested, it used ICE's RoleMaster™ system. These days it's pretty much free of most of that, though I do like the way it handles some aspects, so bits of it are still around.
A few years after the game started, the group discovered that people were moving away, to Universities or to find work, and so in order to keep it alive, we experimented with a postal based system. This worked fine for a while, but as with all these things, it takes time and bits of paper get lost. Synchronising people's actions gets to be a chore. So, sometime in 1995, I started to move it to an email based system.
For reasons which would be awkward to explain, and which would probably take up too much web-space to be useful, it was to all intents and purposes, shut down in early 1999, with only a few friends still playing. The game survived, as did most of the original web site, and now it's coming back.
"Why?" I hear you ask. Well, basically because I feel like it. Do I need another reason? This is a game that's lasted in some form or other since the mid 1980s. It's changed its name a few times, and a few players have come and gone, though at least one of the originals is still around.
Well, for now, that's it. There will be more soon, I promise.
